Dorothy Jordan, Jean Harlow, and Ginger Rogers were considered for the part of Ann Darrow, but the role finally went to Wray who wore a blonde wig in the film and was inspired more by Cooper's enthusiasm than the script to accept the role. According to her autobiography, Wray recounts that Cooper had told her he planned to star her opposite the "tallest, darkest leading man in Hollywood". She assumed he meant Clark Gable until he showed her a picture of Kong instead. She recorded all of her screams in one take and when she died in 2008 the lights of the empire state building where dimmed in her memory.
Wray also played Gail the secretary in "Black moon" sort of like the story of Isaac but with voodoo
She also starred in "The Mystery of the wax museum" in 1933, however I will be spending a day on the wax museum series, so she will get her nod for that then.
Then we have Doctor X its billed as a mystery but with themes like murder rape and cannibalism I'm calling shenanigans. Fay and John Wray both star in this film alongside the hardest working man in Horror Lionel Atwill Fay plays Doctor 's pessimistic daughter Joan
Apparently Wray and Atwill where such a good team in Doctor X and with the upcoming release of The Wax museum they decided to ride the wave of hype and released a lower budget film with another studio with cheaper overheads (important considering it was the depression) and released this campy farce of a Vampire movie The Vampire Bats!
I know when a lot of people think of horrified screaming they still hear Jamie Lee Curtis, or perhaps the mother from The Shinning but for me the best screams still come from the Horror movies original angel Fay Wray and her pipes of innocence terrorized.
Wray did a few episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock show as well A Dip in the pool in 58 as well as The morning after in 59 however the last piece of Wray infused numminess I will leave you with is the classic man hunting movie "The most dangerous game" where Fay plays Eve in this story about a big game hunter whom traps humans on an island to hunt them for sport.
This movie was highly influential and we have several movies with this same concept that keep cropping up every decade.
in 1945 we have the movie based on an Agatha Christie novel "And then there where none"
We have Deliverance in 1972
The Running man in 1987 with Arnie
and Battle Royal which makes the Hunger Games look like a walk in the woods
The song for today I think is rather fitting. Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads
