Todays Octoberween post is about Scary Haunted or otherwise bedeviled houses.
First
up is London After Midnight Starring Lon Chaney The abandoned home of a
wealthy man who supposedly committed suicide five years earlier is
taken over by ghoulish figures - could they be vampires? youtu.be/lSvhDCWD5ZI
The
old dark house from 1932 starring Boris Karloff Seeking shelter from a
storm, five travelers are in for a bizarre and terrifying night when the
stumble upon the Femm family estate. youtu.be/McKj4_RnX2I

Night of Terror starring Bela Lagosi The heirs to a family fortune are
required to attend a seance at the spooky old family mansion. However,
throughout the night members of the family are being killed off one by
one. youtu.be/aNOI-WA0HhI

in their uncle's remote, decaying mansion on the tenth anniversary of
his death for the reading of his will, murder and madness follow. youtu.be/Yeak3RQxyIg
The
1959 Vincent Price Classic House on Haunted Hill A millionaire offers
ten thousand dollars to five people who agree to be locked in a large,
spooky, rented house overnight with he and his wife. youtu.be/GZ5paTwRA_k

The Haunting originally based on the story by Shirley Jackson Dr.
Markway, doing research to prove the existence of ghosts, investigates
Hill House, a large, eerie mansion with a lurid history of violent death
and insanity. With him are the skeptical young Luke, who stands to
inherit the house, the mysterious and clairvoyant Theodora and the
insecure Eleanor, whose psychic abilities make her feel somehow attuned
to whatever spirits inhabit the old mansion. As time goes by it becomes
obvious that they have gotten more than they bargained for as the
ghostly presence in the house manifests itself in horrific and deadly
ways. youtu.be/sog3etUwtSk
Skipping
forward we have Poltergeist starring Craig T Nelson and that awesome
midget chick from Picket Fenses. Poltergeist is a film in some ways
inspired by The Exorcist, but rather than being haunted by the Devil
himself, this house is haunted by restless spirits. Even if Poltergiest
doesn't stand up today as much as Exorcists in the scare category, we
must remember that Poltergeist has been the inspiratation for countless
other successful movies such as Insidious, Paranormal Activity and many
more. I remember being a kid and afraid to look under the bed or go into
the closet and afriad of the static on a TV set. Poltergeist was and is
still to this day one of the best haunted house movies ever made.
However, this is one movie that could use a re-make, a facelift giving
it more of a Paranomal Activity style take while incorporating into it
all themodern day special FX.youtu.be/h_nLiys-TqY

with John Cusack Who wants to check into a haunted hotel after seeing
this movie? What I love about this movie is that it just starts then
never stops...This movie is relentless. If you never believed in the
supernatural, this movie makes you a believer. There is no doubt this
film has you on the edge of your seat from the minute the movie starts
until the credits are over. If you want to see the scariest movie of all
time based in a haunted hotel, this is it no doubt an awesome movie. youtu.be/lgLm4_fq6GY
The
Ghost and Mr Chicken (1966)– This Don Knotts film may very well be
classified as a comedy, but there were several scenes that gave me the
out and out willies as a kid. If you have never seen this movie, check
it out. Don Knotts is a certified scaredy cat as well as a typesetter
for his small town newspaper. But he longs to be a reporter so he is
sent into the Simmons house to spend the night in the location of a
murder/suicide that took place 20 years earlier. He will find his
courage along with the solution to a mystery that has plagued this
little town for so long. And just maybe, he will find some ghosts along
the way.youtu.be/-VffXZ44_LQ
The
Amityville Horror (1979)- Everyone is familiar with this film and it
still stands in my eyes as one of the creepiest haunted house movies.
The Lutz family moves into an ideal home only to find out there are
reasons it sold for so cheap. Reasons to die for. youtu.be/AvYX6KlIm1k
My
top recommended movie probably of the whole damn year is Cabin in the
woods. I mean its written by Joss Whedon for crying out loud! Five
friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get
more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth
behind the cabin in the woods. youtu.be/NsIilFNNmkY
and
at our #1 spot is of course The Shinning, because I would probably go
to movie reviewer hell if I didn't. A family heads to an isolated hotel
for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the
father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings
from the past and of the future. youtu.be/WDpipB4yehk
Song for the day is from RHPS Over at the Frankenstein place, because damn it Janet that House intro was awesome and spooky! youtu.be/vK2u4y7J58I
For
those of you who don't know I am actually a HUGE architecture nut. It
was actually what originally drew me to art and design in any degree is
seeing all of the lovely homes here in Vermont and I wanted to be apart
of something that gorgeous. I would like to draw your attention to the
first haunted house from my memory. Walloomsac Inn in Bennington VT youtu.be/nAoYq_zRB7o
