October 1st Franken Hotty

October 1st 2013 I am declaring Frankenstein day, a series of doctors trying like hell to revive something dead and rotten seems right up our ally, and with all the various different versions and additions to Mary Shellys original book, including wonderful actors like Boris Karloff and Robert De Niro and actresses like Elsa Lancaster this is as great a place to start as any. I will be bringing you once a day a few scary movies choice, a song or two, a recipe, and our monster or our victim of the day. Enjoy!

The first Frankenstein movie made in 1910 made by J Searle Dawley starring Augustus Philips, Charles Ogle and Mary Fuller and produced by Thomas Edison, thats right light bright himself! It was shot in three days in an old factory in the bronx and was considered lost but like all lost but awesome thing was discovered in someones mother attic collecting dust in the 1970's. Enjoy!

1931 classic we all think of Frankenstein staring Boris Karloff! and Colin Clive and Dwight Frye and Mae Clark.

Go check out Count Gore De Vol introduces Lady Frankenstein from 1971 staring Rosalba Neri and shot in Italy

Not to mention my favorite The Bride of Frankenstein directed by James Whale staring Boris Karloff and Elsa Lancaster as the bride herself! This movie was the bane of censorship boards with abundant christian imagery, nudity, blasphemy, even a crucifixion scene which had to be cut

And as always how can we talk about Frankenstein without discussing the brilliant 1974 homage Young Frankenstein made by Mel Brooks and the puttin on the Ritz number with Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle

The of course we have 1943's Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman staring Bel Lagosi AND Lon Chaney and the ever present Lionel Atwil the hardest working man in horror
Then we bring on Hammer Horror and Christopher Lee Curse of Frankenstein 1957
Then there was the hilarious comic duo Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein in 1948
The Son of Frankenstein in 1939
and in 1942 we had The Ghost of Frankenstein

From a Beloved TV series Dad, stamps and even a childrens cereal this nightmare created by Mary Shelly has been a cultural constant the world over.
